Kate & Peter - Swallows Oast
Kate and Petes wedding day in July Was such a great experience, full of fun, laughter and photo opportunities!
Kate was getting ready at The Zanzibar Hotel on Hastings seafront. A really great location for any bridal preparations. She was joined by her Mum and two bridesmaids in what was a very enjoyable morning shoot. I took advantage of the vast amounts of natural light for this first shot you see below, of all the dresses lined up together. Im delighted with how this shot ended up, the symmetry and lighting came together so well plus that random radiator which somehow completes the shot. The majority of the pics through the morning were taken naturally, and as there was lots of laughter going on, I was happy to just step back and capture it all as it happened.
Steph, meanwhile was taking photos of Peter and his family and groomsmen. Plus of course, their beautiful spaniels. My self and Steph are very much pet people so we love the chance to get the family dogs, cats or other beasts in the snaps. Mirroring myself, Steph approached the morning shots with a natural attitude, getting the boys out on the lawn to get their ties on and watching them struggle haha. Then heading off to the venue.
Kate was by this point in her dress and ready to head off. As we had a few minutes before the blue VW Camper arrived (very cool) we left the hotel and popped over the road to the promenade of Hastings. There I captured a few posed shots of Kate, her Bridesmaids and Mum, Before heading off to join the ceremony, and the guests awaiting her arrival.
The ceremony was taking place outside and the weather played its part well. Kate made a fantastic entrance, pulling the camper up to the back of the aisle and stepping out on the other side, keeping herself hidden from the wedding party. The ceremony itself really was lovely, very emotional with some great readings and funny moments. After the kiss and signing of the register were done and dusted, our bride and groom walked out under a shower of confetti to enjoy some welcome drinks and photos. Including one if my faves of the day, of Kate and Pete sitting in the VW. A shot which I will admit was Stephs idea, and a good one at that(don't tell her I said that).
We gathered all the guests through the woods to the fields beyond for some group shots. The same fields where I had taken Kate and Pete's engagement pics a couple of months earlier. These shots also included the couples dogs who we saw earlier in the day.
A really nice touch were all the home made elements of the day. A lot of the decoration was made by Kate and Peter. Plus lots made by Peters Mum. However my favourite had to be the napkins, which had come all the way from New Zealand, courtesy of Peters Aunt Debbie.
Once everybody had eaten the very lovely wedding breakfast (I know because we had it too) it was time for some very funny speeches and present giving. I make a point of getting to know each couple in the build up to the wedding, and through two meetings and an engagement shoot you really do. Thats why we enjoying taking photos of the speeches, because its an insight into the couple who's day you are sharing. Plus the natural smiles and reactions you get make for perfect subjects for photographs.
Once the wedding party had been moved outside into the beautiful evening sunshine, to enjoy live music and drinks, Kate and Pete wandered down into the woods and beyond with us for some more relaxed couple shots. These came out great in the hazy sunlight and the green of the woodland walk. Swallows Oast is an absolute hidden gem with so many photo opportunities, all with different feels, but that same countryside aspect running through.
The evening celebrations got underway, and everybody was having a lovely time. It was nice for me to meet Carol & John again, who's wedding day was the first i ever photographed. Both the Bride and Groom take part in endurance racing, so Kate had a big group photo with all the girls from their running friends, 'guns out' of course. The dancing, went on through the night I'm sure, but our day ended once Kate and Pete had danced their first dance.
I have to say, this couples day really was loads of fun and Steph and myself had a blast! I probably shouldn't have favourites but if I did, this would be one. All the best for the future Kate and Pete.
