Charlotte & Sam - Salehurst Church
Its always lovely to photograph the wedding of somebody you have known for many years, today was one of those days. Charlotte, is the older sister of one of my closest friends and it was an honour to be asked to capture her big day.
I started the day by visiting the home of Charlottes parents, where her and her bridal party were getting ready. Only this time I wasn't a 14 year old boy going to see my mate Alex! Very strange feeling indeed and made me feel very old! I started off with some dress shots and then flowers. Followed by some candid photos of the ladies getting ready and having their hair and makeup done. The hair stylist, none other than my good friend Hati Cole, now girlfriend of my friend Alex and someone who I work with a lot on collaborative photo shoots. I knew the Bride was in good hands. Charlottes parents told me they had to have one certain photo, one which was very important to them as a family, and that was one of Charlotte on the step in the garden. This was a family tradition. All first day at school pics were taken in that spot so it was very nice to be asked to capture that for them. After more photos in the garden, Charlotte left for the church in a family friends old green Jaguar, it was a beauty!
I arrived at Salehurst Church to find my colleague Steph busy as always, taking photos of guests arriving in all their finery, and Sam looking dapper in his blue suit. After all the guests had made their way inside the church it was time for Charlotte to arrive, accompanied by her father. Charlotte looked very elegant as she made her way down the very long aisle towards her Groom. The ceremony was a very traditional service with readings, but the vicar made it very fun for everyone by cracking a few well timed jokes.
After the service we made our way outside for group photos on the steps of this very beautiful, rural church. Under an archway of flowers, it all looked very pretty. Once we had completed the list of groups and everyone had made their way off to the reception, Charlotte and Sam stayed back with us at the church. This was our opportunity to take some couple shots and to utilise this lovely church and its surroundings. The location for these shots we had chosen the week before, when I met the bride and groom here to finalise our photo plans for the day. So this meant there was no confusion. We wandered through the churchyard to the fields behind and took some shots of this wonderful couple in amongst the grain, which came out really well. Then stopped off at a couple more spots on the way back through to the car.
The reception was held at The White Dog in Ewehurst. A lovely country pub with a long sweeping lawn. Perfect for a marquee! The vast majority of the posed photos were done by this point, which was lucky as the heavens opened! It rained solidly for a good hour or so but everybody remained in high spirits.
One idea I loved from the wedding was a family tradition for Charlotte, and that was a bake off between the bridal party. Everybody had created a desert including the bride and groom. It seemed a lovely way to bring the family into the day!
After the outdoor cake cutting (yes, the rain had stopped) we went into the marquee for music and dancing! The band were great and the atmosphere fantastic. We got loads of great images from this part of the day as everyone danced the night away.
It really was lovely to be a part of Charlotte and Sam's day. They were delighted with the images from the day, as were Steph and myself. Best wishes for the future Charlotte and Sam!
