Katy & Michael - St Mary Star of the Sea

Katy and Michaels wedding day on 20th September 2014 was a lovely day, full of great photo opportunities. It was such fun photographing the day of these two and their beautiful daughters Kitty and Tabitha. As you will see as you look through the photos, they were very happy to take some really interesting and different shots! Including some outside a fish and chip shop?!

They day started for us like most do. I went to spend the morning with the Bride and Steph went off to Michael, our Groom. Katy got ready at home surrounded by her friends, family, and most importantly with her daughters. Everyone seemed very calm and collected so I took a seat on the sofa and captured lots of candid images as everybody went about their business. A big part of the day were and the homemade elements of the wedding, with Katy and Michael sourcing a lot of the decorations themselves and making lots too. This was something we were keen to capture.

The ceremony was a traditional Catholic Church wedding at St Mary's Star of the Sea in Hastings Old Town. A really lovely church to photograph. Especially as its such a large and spectacular space. The photos from the ceremony came out great, and I was pleased with how they told the story.

Afterwards we went outside to take photos of the different family groups. The church has a very nice giant doorway which lends itself well to these kinds of images. Katy & Michael had made the decision to have a gap in their wedding day, in which guests could go off for a couple of hours and have a look around Hastings Old Town. This left us with lots of time to get some fantastic, creative shots around and about the area. Making our way down the streets of the old town, finding little spots to shoot. Eventually we got to the sea front, where we made use of Hastings' iconic black fishing huts and the beach at Rock n Ore. Another great opportunity was a ride in the Hastings East Hill Funicular Railway. These images are my favourite from the day. Once on top of the hill we also took some shots of our Bride and Groom overlooking the town, these again came out really well!

After that, we made our way back down and drove up to the reception venue, Fairlight Village Hall. Ive always been a big fan of village hall receptions. Its a great blank canvas that you can really make your own, and Katy and Michael did just that. The whole reception had a cosy feel to it, and you could tell that lots of the family and friends of Katy & Michael had contributed to the day with the food and decor. After much dancing and celebration, we left the party to it.

Steph and myself left feeling very happy with our days work. It was lovely to be given so much time to take photos of just the two of them in and around Hastings Old Town.

Best wishes to Katy, Michael and their family.
