Sarah & David - Bannatynes Hotel
As the great Morcombe and Wise said, "Bring me Sunshine". A phrase that both featured and defined Sarah and Davids beautiful summers day wedding.
Again we find ourselves at Bannatyne's Hotel in Hastings. No doubt my most frequented venue and for good reason. The long flowing gardens, leading into woodland and the big 18th Century Hotel really make my job easy. Theres no hunting around for photo opportunities, they just happen. I had been looking forward to this wedding day. There was something about David and Sarah that just made me think there day would be not only beautiful but good fun too.
I arrived at the hotel along with my 2nd shooter Steph. We made our way up first to see how Sarah was getting on, we found a very excited bride looking forward to the day ahead. Steph went off downstairs to take photographs of the guests arriving at the hotel and the ceremony area all set up and ready. I stayed upstairs with Sarah. There was some really wonderful light pouring in through the window above the bath, so I decided to take full advantage of it and photograph some of the smaller details of the day in that area, then a few of Sarah herself. Sarah had taken much inspiration from the great Hollywood starlets, for her look on the day, and one thing she briefed me about before the day was wanting some portrait photos before the ceremony in that style. So thats what we did, taking advantage of the grand staircase at Bannatynes in the process.
An outside ceremony is always nice, especially the with weather being so sunny. This day was a truly hazy September day. With this wedding we had the opportunity to work with a videographer. Not something we get to do that often. I always try to work together with the videographers, sharing ideas and shots with each other and chatting to them to make sure nobody is stepping on each others toes. After all we are both there to ensure the couple have a great day and that it is captured fully. The ceremony was very nice, including some very sweet readings.
Afterwards, it was time for drinks, canapes and formal photographs. At Bannatynes there is a great avenue of coniferous trees which I like to use as a back drop. These add great symmetry to the images, something I'm really keen on. After the group photos were completed, we took the bride and groom around the hotel grounds for some more photographs involving just them. As I said before, there are so many great spots for photos at Bannatynes you really are spoilt for choice.
Before long it was time for the speeches, and some very funny ones at that. Myself and Steph both love original and well written speeches and these were just that. Creating some great smiles and photo opportunities along the way. It also seemed like a few celebrities turned up?!
After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we actually took Sarah & David off for some more photographs. The light at that time was looking lovely and even when it got dark there were still opportunities to be had, like the silhouette photos you can see below. After these few more photos it was time for the evening reception to begin in the Montgomery Suite.
The evening reception kicked off in great style with lots of dancing and copious amounts of confetti! Im sure the dancing continued on and on through the night!
Thank you Sarah and David for all the fantastic photo opportunities and such a great day!
Here is what Sarah and David had to say about us: "Just wanted to say that we got our photographs back from Darren last night and are so, so pleased. The fact that Darren gives you a cd and in our case 2 cds of excellent photos works out to be such good value. The photos really brought back such happy memories of our special day and ones that we never saw. Darren has a real eye for a good shot. He made us feel very comfortable on the day as he is such a nice pleasant guy and was really good fun. We had very positive comments from our guests about him also. Steph his assistant was lovely and was great with Sarah's niece. Can't recommend highly enough."
