Jo & Scott's Wedding - The Island of Santorini, Greece
To travel as a photographer has to be a dream when you start out on your career, and so when the opportunity to photograph a wedding abroad happened it was an opportunity too good to miss.
Jo & Scott had visited my studio in Hastings previously for a shoot so had knowledge of my work anyway. So when I started to advertise myself for weddings abroad they were one of the first to enquire. I am so pleased they did because their wedding in the beautiful Santorini was such a fantastic experience for me.
I arrived on the island a couple of days prior to the wedding for some me time but also to make sure that I was able to get there without any issues (delayed/cancelled flights etc). Whilst sitting in the departure lounge at Gatwick I bumped into a few familiar faces. Clients from my studio and friends of Jo & Scott. In fact I ended up sitting next to one family who's little girl had had a shoot only a couple of months previously!
The wedding day itself was one il never forget. I am not a man who enjoys heat, I feel much more comfortable in winter haha. So turning up to a wedding in 40 degree heat was a challenge. However not only were there high temperatures but RAIN!! As you can see from the photos the weather took a few turns to grey throughout the course of the day but nothing could dampen the spirits. The experience of shooting a wedding like this was well worth the heat and rain. The venue was breathtaking, not only for the classic greek styling with all the modern comforts, but the view was utterly breathtaking. I also doubt il ever get the opportunity to photograph a wedding with a dormant volcano in the background ever again!
The ceremony took place on a lower part of the bay overlooking the bay and volcano. Truly a stunning place to say "I do". One thing that I found so pleasing was the amount of guests who had turned up on the island to share Jo and Scotts wedding day with them. Around 60 people had made the trip from various points the UK to be there. A true testament to their families and friends.
After group photographs and candid shots of the welcome drinks being served around the pool I took Jo and Scott off for a few nice photographs around the hotel and there is nothing quite like a Santorini sunset. They were also kind enough to ask me to join them for dinner and I found myself sitting next to the same family I had been next to on the plane!
The evening was lovely, still warm and with such a beautiful setting and candles in the pool. After the first dance it was time for my first wedding abroad experience to end. I have to thank Jo & Scott for the opportunity and heres hoping there will be more weddings around the globe.
