Roxie & Chris - Herstmonceux Castle

From the first time I met Roxy and Chris, I could tell their wedding day would be quirky and most certainly fun. A couple who definitely don't take themselves too seriously with a beautiful venue as their backdrop which made the perfect recipe for memorable photos.

The day started for me in the Bridal suite at Herstmonceux Castle. Roxy and her bridesmaids seemed to be enjoying the getting ready stages immensely, and I could hear the laughter even before I entered the room. When I met the couple for a look around the venue a month or so before the wedding day we had spotted a staircase that we all agreed was a certain location for a few couple shots. However, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take a few shots of the dress there too to really make the most of the location. Upon returning to the bridal suite I made sure to capture the rest of the outfit details and lots of candid shots of the bridal party enjoying the prep.

When Steph arrived to get some shots of Chris and his Groomsmen, the guys were already suited up in preparation. She got a great shot of the rings with four shots of whiskey around them. A little Dutch Courage perhaps for the boys. Then when she arrived at the Castle they made time to have shots on the bridge across the moat.

The ceremony was really very beautiful, full of smiles and lovely little moments, including Chris's younger brother bearing the rings for the happy couple and the best "signing the register shot" I have ever had the privilege of taking.

After the ceremony, the couple made their way through a parade of bubbles and the drinks and canapes were served. It's at this point in the day that we like to capture as many candid shots of the guests as possible. The feeling of fun and laughter seemed to be a bug that the whole wedding party had caught.

The courtyard at Herstmonceux Castle is a lovely space for group photos, especially under the wisteria that climbs its way up the castle walls. So we got to work going through the list of shots the Bride and Groom had provided.

After some wonderful speeches and a chill out for us during the meal, we wandered with the Bride and Groom out the back into the gardens. The gardens at the Castle are stunning and seem to go on forever. As well as the elegant couple shots we would normally do, I was conscious of letting Chris and Roxie express themselves and have some fun with it all. It was evident during the engagement shoot, and the day itself, that they felt much more comfortable pulling funny faces. So knowing their mutual love of Harry Potter, we armed them with wands and demanded their best "expelliarmus!" The resulting shot is a favourite of mine and the couples too.

Once we made our way back in evening guests were starting to arrive and the band were ready to go. We captured as much dancing and fun times as we could before making our way home.

Roxie and Chris's day was fun-filled, geeky, quirky and jam-packed with photo opportunities. Its lovely to see when a Bride and Groom put so much of their own personalities into their wedding day. Heres to a long and wonderful future for the two of you!!

This is what the beautiful Mr & Mrs Roberts had to say about us

"I just wanted to write a quick review about how incredible Darren and Steph were doing the photography for our wedding. I really couldn't recommend them more, they were both incredibly professional and did everything to make us feel comfortable and actually enjoy having a camera pointed at us!

They just blended in and became part of the day, they really captured the very spirit and essence of the day. Looking at the pictures brings everything back and such a wonderful reminder of all the details that could easily be forgotten. The colours all popped and they captured moments that will last forever. Darren and Steph were fun and allowed us to be ourselves (including pulling interesting faces!) which means the world to us. Darren even made me look more beautiful than I thought I could ever look! To remember your wedding in the colour and love it deserves, you need to do it justice and use these guys. I can't thank you both enough!! Love Mr and Mrs Roberts"
