Aaron & Katie - Swallows Oast
While yes, Aaron and Katie's wedding at the stunning Swallows Oast was another opportunity to photograph someones special day, I had many other jobs too. Ring bearer, toast master, and generally making sure the day went smoothly. Why? Well Aaron is my wife's brother, so we were guests more than we were there to work. However, as is usual when I am meant to be taking a day off rather than working, I cant help myself. Not that Steph, my assistant, needed any help. She captured the day to perfection, leaving Aaron and Katie with photos they can treasure forever.
Steph was with Katie in the morning and I had Aaron at my house for his getting ready shots. A role reversal of how we normally do things. Katie was with all her lovely bridesmaids being made over by the fantastic Grace Benson, and of course, Bella the dog.
Aaron mean while got ready with us at home, along with family and his best men Alex and Kyle. I love the shots of him opening his presents. They actually brought each other the same vinyl as a present haha. Shows its meant to be!
The decor from their wedding was something we loved. Lots of bright colours, sunflowers and how awesome are the flamingos? Perfect for a mid summer wedding!
The ceremony was overseen by Felicity Harvest, an independent, humanist celebrant. We had Felicity for our wedding in 2015 and to do a naming ceremony for our son Jasper. Its lovely to have an independent celebrant. They give you such a personalised ceremony including forgotten traditions like hand fastening, where my wife, Aaron's sister got to take part along with Katie's brother Alex. I was also honoured to be part of the ceremony, giving the happy couple their weddings rings.
After the confetti and while we started on the group shots, the guests enjoyed the canapes. I must say that I am lucky enough to try quite a few canapes in my job and Swallows Oast has some of the best!
Walking Through the woodland path it opens up onto a beautiful field with a huge oak tree, made even more magical with a big tree swing! We made use of this backdrop for the weddings party group shots and some fun ones of the swing too!
Some excellent speeches were made, capturing laughter from both family & friends. Some barns are quite dark but Swallows oats even though its smaller than some it has such a lovely light space. The frog hat that Aaron is wearing is because he calls Katie frog, he was also made to wear that all through his stag.
We returned to the fields after dinner to soak in that golden summer sunset. It also gave the couple a chance to spend some time together to reflect on their day.
I love hearing what first dance songs people choose and myself, Steph and Aleisha my other assistant will often try to guess what peoples songs are going to be. I wouldn't have expected anything less than 'Friday I'm In Love" by The Cure from this music loving duo. Which also happens to be one of my favourite songs!
